Ascendant, 1979
Ambar Diaz told me that the Kuhaylan Hayfi stallion Ascendant (Monsoon X Demetria by Lysander) died last week at Michael Bowling’s in California. He was 32. The only remaining link to the Monsoon sire line is through Ascendant’s son SA Apogee.
What that abbreviated pedigree does not show is that both parents were out of Ceres (Aramis x Dharebah), a very special mare. Ascendant followed the Lysander part of his pedigree more strongly than the Monsoon and Ceres type. They were both more upright and less stocky.
Look at those lovely short cannons. “Knees and hocks well let down,” as Lady Anne Blunt might say!
SA Apogee was reported to have died (of colic?) some time ago, so all we have are his daughters. Who are not chicken feed.
