Photo of the Day: Davenport Fillies

From left to right: Persephone CF (Hamdani Simri), Tapestry CF (Kuhaylan Haifi), Chiffon CF (Hamdani Simri). Photo c1986 in Las Vegas, NV.

Chiffon was at one time the mascot for the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. She carried the flag and was ridden around the track at football games, and in parades.

Persephone has founded a family in her own right. Chiffon breeds on only through one son, Ibn Don Carlos, but her presence makes herself felt two and three generations down. (See the photos from the 2007 Al Khamsa Fantasia for many of her descendants.)

Thanks to Jeanne Craver for providing the photo! (There are more of Chiffon at the DAHC photo archive.)

  1. Yes, it seems to me that once you get Asara in the pedigree, whether through Tybalt, Olivia, June, High-C, or Porthos, she really changes the look of the horses.

For example Zoe LD is very obviously an Asara horse to my eye, even though she is four generations down from Tybalt and five from Asara and has just the one cross to Asara. Maybe a color link to the Asara bay has something to do with it?

  2. wow, it must be dejavu all over again! The picture above reminds me of “The Three Graces” 3 Davenport bred females photographed at W.K. Kellogg’s Pomona Ranch.

  3. I jest, as always I usually say things to create responce.
The Asara line, grey, bay, chestnut, or fleabitten tends
to vary in type, and size. Yet they always leave a stamp
as does Tripoli, Reshan, or that DNA Hamdaniah mare?
Am sure I leave out so many that I have not been around?

Three graces? Yes, Joe, yet these three are Craver Farms!
The insistance of breeding now and for the forever tomorrows. Not to survive as yesterday and the Bedouin
but to let live as a reminder that quality simply is
reason enough to remain. Seeing the influence of
Tripoli is seeing Craver Farms and a family effort
standing firm supporting Charles. May we all be so lucky
to live and really live in such trust.

This blog is about the horse of the Bedouin, yes? Yet
it is so much more. What we all see and hear each day
is the hoofbeat into time, the true gift.

Yes, Al Khamsa is active and directing attendtion. Sure,
so is this blog. We are all saying what, outside is a way of life. Quality worthy of keeping safe while enjoying.

Yes, Tybalt lives on. Just as all the others I did not realize and know. There are many that are perfect, in my yard and yours. Like the rainbows of Taos, these perfect
moments reflect what was and is.

Thanks Edouard, hope France was all that you needed, but glad you are back! Hope you breed the mare to her son!

  4. Jackson — I believe Edouard is still enjoying his vacation. I posted this one to keep the chair warm while he’s taking a break from pixel-land. 🙂
