Sahara, a cocktail of asil bloodlines from Hungary

Sahara from L. Kiraly

This morning Laszlo Kiraly of Hungary sent me this picture of his young Sahara (Sabek ibn Saher x Shahhra by Wahhabit), a Kuhaylat al-‘Ajuz that combines some of the best asil bloodlines from the world over:

Her sire Sabek ibn Saher (picture bel0w), from the German Government Stud of Marbach, has not one but two close lines to Soldateska (1911), and so plenty of that precious old Weil blood of Ghadir, Amurath 1881, and Tajar.

Her grand-sire Wahhabit (Siglavy Bagdady VI x Delicate Air by Laertes) is half Davenport bloodlines from his dam and half old Babolna bloodlines from his sire Siglavy Bagdady VI (Siglavy Bagdady V x 250-Kuhailan Haifi I), which is a unique combination. He brings in the equally precious blood of Kuhaylan Haifi and Kuhaylan Zaid.

Her grand dam 225 Sheherazade B (Ibn Galal III x 220 Ibn Galal I) brings in the tail female to the Babolna asil mare 25-Amurath Sabib, as well as the Egyptian lines to Hanan that Dr. Hans Nagel breeds.

Laszlo, can you find a good stallion from Syria or Saudi Arabia to breed to her?

  1. What about the stallions from Jenny Lees? Or the syrian stallions in France??
I am looking for a Shuwayman sabbah stallion to breed to my loan SE mare in spring and a stallion with Iranian blood for my Egyptian Iranian cross loan mare.

  2. Sahara is lovely, Laszlo! What a fine mare.

(There is also the Syrian Krush stallion in Spain, or Farag II-3, if you want to go back to the Babolna lines.)

Thinking about prospective sires can be so much fun for mare owners…

  3. Thanks for the typs Monique and Jenny. Thank God I have enough time to choose the stallion for this young mare, because she is only 1 1/2 Years old.
But for my other mares I would like choose a Rubi de la Mouline or a Husam Al-Shimal or a.. These are only dreams. One day it can be reality, I hope.

We only have them on loan, in fact for the girls to ride, but their pedigrees are so interesting that i would love to breed them if they are still here with us in spring.

Hanneke their owner knows so much about the Iranians and lovely stories about them. There is a film about the Asils from Khuzestan, which I have here at the mo, i need to copy it for myself, it’s Hanneke’s original copy. I can make a copy for you as well??
If you search Google for Mary Garagozlou you will find a lot about the Iranian bred Arabs. In fact the Iranian or Persian Asil is said to be older then the Arabian desert breds.

In the 80’s and 90’s there was a group of Iranian bred asils in Austria at the Schieferegg stud, but they all seem to have disappeared. I am going to try and find out where they all have gone though.

I have a picture of my mares, but I do not know how to get it on the blog.

    Kind regards, Monique

  5. Iranian Asil:
Iranian Arab horses are bred from Khuzestan.
This region is populated by Arab tribes.

The “Arabs of Iran,” one of the first and oldest domesticated breeds, is in Iran during the breeding puts more emphasis on performance rather than appearance.

  6. “puts more emphasis on performance rather than appearance”

But aren’t they the same thing? A horse with obviously good legs, balanced correct structure, a strong back and loin, and powerful hindquarter will be able to perform, right?

  7. A question for Edouard. You yourself seem to be busy inbreeding Wisteria CF with her grandsire Javera Thadrian and Javera Chelsea with her full brother, yet you advise other people to make stone-cold outcrosses. Why is that?

  8. LOL.. I like Javera Thadrian. I like his bloodlines, I feel reassured by the existence and authenticity of the hujaj of most of the Foundation horses of the Davenport importation. I think I would have used him even if the mares were not from related bloodlines.
Also breeding Thadrian to his full sister Chelsea is something Charles has been wanting to try, and I went along.

That said, I think I would like to go for Mlolshaan Hager Solomon next year.

  9. Laszlo,

Your mare is lovely! And her sire–what eyes! Well, I can see one, but I assume the other one is equally beautiful. I have to save my centesimi and come to Hungary in the Spring to see your horses.

I have bought a young colt from Louis Bauduin; he should be arriving here in Italy from France soon. He is the same age as your mare and is of Tunisian and Algerian breeding.

I wish you the very best with you beautiful girl.

    Elena

  10. Congratulations, Elena, how wonderful! I hope you will send some pictures and information for Edouard to post after he arrives.

  11. Dear Jenny and Laszlo,

Thank you so much! I am very excited, especially as this will be my first time training a young horse. I will surely be looking for lots of advice here once I get going. :))

I am so very grateful to be part of this wonderful group.

  12. You have right ,Monique.
There are many good stallions in Europe. Thank God,we have more and more chance to breed a good asil arab horse with real desert origin.
You try to breed a Shuwyman stallion to Your SE. mare.
(Tail female back to the Tahawy -bred Folla ? ) A good idea – I think.Best wishes for the plan.
About Mary Gharagozlou and the remaining european asil iranian horses You can find a partner in me. I have an
amateur film about the ( U. Marczik’s ) Schieferegg Stud but in Spain filmed. They had many iranian and iranian-egyptian cross asils.Somewhere i have a list about this into Austria imported horses.

All the best For You and Your horses.

    László,
    from Hungary

  13. Laszlo,
Your mare is a wonderful individual, and what a pedigree. Her sire looks magnificent.
Congratulations. May you have many years of success breeding her with a large variety of the best and rarest of the asil bloodlines available today.
Your post ‘made my day’ as we say in English.
    All the best,
    Tzviah

  14. Thank You,Tzviah!

Sahara has a lovely character and a very rare pedigree too. I gave her name after her sire, Sabek Ibn Saher( both mother and father’s side Murana I.asil descendants ), who had the father,Saher, the famous stallion of the asil heritage of Weil – Marbach.
The dam of Sahara , is from ” my marbat “, the 60 Adjuze – descendent ,Shahhra.

Sahara wil be a big-sized mare ,she is 1.53 now, at 1 1/2 years.

    Best wishes,

    László
