Chahata, 1990 Kuhaylan al-‘Ajuz stallion from Tunisia

I took this photo of the Kuhaylan al-‘Ajuz Chahata (Hosni xHamida by Soufyan) at the stallion depot of the Tunisian government stud of Sidi Thabet in 2006. He was a great race horse, and I thought he was exceptionally well built, while at the same time displaying good Arab type. I wonder what’s with the hocks, though.

  1. Just curious, was looking up his name and came on the Ifahr website (Arabian racehorses) through one of his daughters. Of course not very interesting under France as all Dormanes but went on to Turkey http://www.ifahr.org/arabian-race-horses.php?it=info&ld=21

Besides the amazing winnings of some of these Turkish, I was curious if most of them are still asil?

For instance Ayabakan (Özgün x Zafire) with over 1,2 million euro pricemoney or or Kafkasli (Cas x Malike 18) with an amazing 3,5 million euro price money.

Not much is available about the Turkish state stud (or any other studs) but wasn’t their stock all asil until their recent imports of Polish & other stallions?

  2. Patrick: If i may,, You mena the Turks imported a bunch of patrbreds to breed their asil mares to? not good news..

  3. Looks like a capped hock. Stallions especially will get them sometimes from kicking stall walls out of frustration. Usually doesn’t cause lasting lameness, just unsightly.
