A blog on desert arabian horses, past, present and future
Twenty three years on, this remains one of my favorite pictures ever. I miss the man and the times.
Two of my favorite people.
Charles was an absolute treasure. He is greatly missed.
OMG – I genuinely could not picture you with facial hair so this is breaking my brain a little.
I really can’t believe it’s been so long.
Was it you who took it in 2000?

Oh, no, I don’t know who took it; was just thinking it seems like yesterday.
A year if coincidences. That year I was starting my life journey with the Arabian horse and fallen in love with the Davenports. The zip code of Craver Farms called my attention as we had lived there being at UIUC. And I emailef Charles and we talked, through the emails back then. What struck me the most, aside from his knowledge of the Arabian bloodlines, was his humility. The humility of greatness. I had been back at Urbana Champaign, some months before our emails, but didn’t return afterwards and we never met.
Finally not finding any close line to Davenports in Argentina I bought my first Arabian, a colt by Anaza el Farid out of a Gainey mare. I know, not Asil having Skowronek in his pedigree, but he is like a son to me. He will be 24 years young next month.
