Joe Ferriss Arabian Essence article on the Om Dalal family.
Check out Joe’s latest article in Arabian Essence. I love the comparison of some mares of the Egyptian Om Dalal family with the *Abeyah line, just as much as I love re-re-reading the late Carol Lyons “homogeneous background of Al Khamsa Arabians” article.
As Carol says,’ they had long since discovered that the Asil Arabian was the best possible horse for their purpose.’Well there you have it. People have recently been wondering ,’ why breed them if no one wants them but you and me.’ Soundness. Has anyone reading these pages ever had any cases of Osteo Chondrosis in their Asil stock? If so I’ll bet its darn rare. Or ringbone? Or sidebone? The anthropomorphically warped standards of the show ring have resulted in horses that are too big and chronically unsound. But if you appreciate a riding horse that you can actually ride day after day look no further than an Arab.
Best Wishes
