Photo of the day: Seanderich (b. 1902)
Seanderich, a desert bred stallion born in 1902, is one of the founders of Arabian horse breeding in Spain. Both his sire and his dam are stated to have been from the Saqlawi strain. The Spanish Stud-book actually has all his four grandparents as Saqlawi. For more details about his importation to Spain through an Istanbul-based horse dealer by the name of Ismailion, and his influence on Spanish breeding, read this article. One can’t help but lament the consequences of the addition to Spanish Arabian breeding of Polish Branicki bloodlines through Ursus and Wan Dick, and their overshadowing the influence of desert-bred imports like Seanderich, Sawah II and Bagdad.

Abdülaziz I.,established a Stud (Ka??thane Haras?) in 1864,not far from Istanbul,it was very Beautyful.

Arabian racing is popular in Turkey since ancient times.
The Ottoman sultans for centuries received gifts of Arabian horses from getting to the countries over which they reigned.In 1861 the Sultan Abdulaziz I, founded a new farm, building with oriental horses and sent a commission to purchase in Bialocerkiew, the stud of Count Branicki in Poland, whose breeding have a very good reputation.
This included the 1855 stallion Indjanin imported from England.
The Commission purchased 92 horses, including some descendants of Indjanin.1879 gave the Sultan Abdulhamid II, two stallions from this stable, Leopard and Linden Tree, as a gift to President Grant in the United States.Also the Blunt’s visited in 1893 the imperial stables, in this Time,there were about 1,700 Purebred Arabian horses.

One of the treasures that can come up with the Turkish Arabian horse breeding,are the three desert mare's,Mahsuse,Cahide(Greatgrandaughter of the Mare Asshab) and Mesrure from the Dolmabahce palace.
Once owned by the last Sultan Mehmed VI. (reigned 1918-1922) of the Ottoman Empire.
Seanderich was bred by Abdulmohsen, a Sheikh of the Shammar, he was handed over to the Veli of Baghdad, where this stallion sent to Istanbul to Sultan Abdulhamid II
Seanderich contributed to this time no names but was known only as The White Seklavi.
He left ony one Offspring, The filly Mahsuse was a brown mare, born in 1906 came to Istanbul in 1910,Her Dam was a Manekiye,the mare of Darwiesh Haji Mousa from Alqarmaniah village, which was then sold to Spain too and was named after the Turkish city of Urfa.
Mahsuse founded a Tailefemale line and is the oldest Family Branch in the Turkish Breeding Program.

The so-called desert breeding Arabian horses were imported to Spain in the years 1905 to 1912, were from the Imperial Stud Farm Ayazaga Stable’s or
Kagithane of Abdulhamid II
During this time, there were no Arab republics, like Syria,Lebanon or kingdoms like Iraq and Jordan or Saudi Arabia,at this time.
The Arabian Peninsula and Mesopotamia were part of the Ottoman Empire.
The horses were the offspring of desert Arabs.
Mr.Ismailion in Istanbul, was a Sephardic Jew and the agent for foreign buyers.
The horses’ names are Turkish or only called by his Strain’s, and were converted into Spain in a Spanish spelling.
These horses were from the royal farms of Abdulhamid II.

Zoraida (Züreyde), bought in 1905 from Celik Muhammad from Urfa at the price of: 2,484 Pts.
Urfa a nonnamed Manekiye from the Turkish City Urfa , bought in 1907 from Dek Raman from Urfa at the price of: 2,334 Pts.
Validek, the Mare of Rahime Piristû Valide Sultan (the Stepmother of Abdülhamid II.), bought in 1909 from Alderi Effendi from the Royal Palace in Istanbul.
