*Wadduda

A photo of the desert-bred mare and Davenport import *Wadduda I had not seen before. Not a single surviving photo has done justice to this mare. PS — Jamr is a direct female descendant of *Wadduda.

  1. Oh, gosh, she was really scarred by the saddle. I suspect that no photo could ever do her justice, or capture the essence of Wadduda as Davenport described her when she saw the desert again, after leaving Aleppo.

  2. Kate: Oh, gosh, doesn’t fully describe the extent of her back injuries! What were those people thinking? The other pictures I’ve seen of her all show her with her neck stuck, in not a good way and her face tilted away from the Ramener- the back injuries explain it all!
I think its Lexington whose skeleton is supposedly at the Smithsonian whose spine shows several thoracics grown together with bone extending from one verterbra to the next. Anyhoo it was by no means unknown for 18th century horses to have severe conformational damage from their hard usage. Gads!
