Photo of the day: Barakah, South Africa (b. 1942)
As a follow up to an earlier post on the Asil Kuhaylan al-Mimrah strain that breeds on in South Africa, this is a rare picture of the lovely Barakah (Ibn Manial x Gamalat), the mare through which the strain survives in Asil form. Barakah was bred to the Asil stallion Tuwaisaan, an import from Bahrain, to produce Sahibi Bint Barakah, of which you can find a picture here (scroll down).
The beautiful Barakah was part of our stud in the 50’s, dispersed in the 60’s, where she remained [as my dad deemed her too old at 25 to seriously be used for breeding] until bought for a few hundred Rands by Noli-Marais. Her daughter [Bint-Barakah] was my child’s riding horse for many years.
Sir, you are one lucky person. Your mare made Arabian horse history. Do you have unpublished pictures of her?
