Desert-bred Hamdaniyah Simriyah, Syria, 2019
Folks from the Jazirah area of Syria have been sending me pictures and stories of horses that remain there. This beauty is one of them. I also saw pictures of other gorgeous horses of the Rabdan, Rishan, Saadan, Jilfan and Khallawi strains. You would be stunned. It would seem like the Bedouin’s pool is bottomless, despite the civil war including the most recent Turkish attack on these specific areas.
So let those dummys who claim the current day cradle country asils are plain janes flap their jaws. They are simply wrong!

ps. I do fervently pray and SO HOPE there are enough asils left to re-start their breeding program.
Oh wow! How beautiful!
Big orbed eyes, fine black skin, large nostils, nice tipped ears….Lovely! I would take this horse in a heartbeat. I second Bruce’s sentiment that enough of these wonderful horses remain when the humans finally come to their senses.
Upon looking at her pedigree, I need to qualify the desert-bred description. She traces to desert-bred horses whose descendants were bred in Damascus (including at the government stud) and Aleppo (mostly Jabri). Her dam was brought back to North Eastern Syria from Damascus and covered by a stallion from ibn Ghurab.
She certainly passes my initial test! And I am happy with her background, especially through the Al Jabri stud. And ibn Ghurab certainly works for me as representing desert bred Hamdani breeding.
Lovely
What’s left of Ibn Ghurab’s Hamdani horses?
Any news about them?
Several are left, but the son is less particular and less picky about choosing his stallions than the father was.
Not good news,
if you think of it as a 300 year old marbat….
..of course, the good news is that there is something left.
Do you know what’s left?
Several mares and a stallion. The marbat was not affected by war.
