George O’Brien

Who was the George O’Brien who imported *Munifeh and *Munifan from Saudi Arabia in 1947? Was he a US politician? or an ARAMCO executive?

  1. He had to have been an Aramco exec. IIRC U.S. Politicians stayed out of the middle east in a public, go there, and make pronouncements sense, mostly cuz there were votes to be mined by being obsequiously pro Israel, while on the q.t. letting the oil companies deduct all the taxes they paid to nations in the middle east from their u.s. tax bills. It came to be called americas dual, and conflicting middle east policy. The tax deduction essentially amounted to foreign aid for the arab governments and was used as leverage to keep them aligned with the west during the cold war and not receptive to the soviets. It worked for the most part too, except for when the Egyptians got the Russians to stump up for the Aswan dam.

  2. An executive at Standard Oil. A little digging on ancestry.com turned up photos and a news clipping which I am forwarding you in email.
