The horses have such impressive carriage and presence. I have to think Wilfrid and Lady Anne Blunt were selecting for that. Of the bays and chestnuts paraded, *Nasik and *Nureddin II were stallions the Blunts themselves used. Hazzam and Rafeef were colts bred in Lady Anne’s half of the Crabbet Stud. And Shareer and Raseem were both by Blunt stallions (*Nureddin II and Rasim) and out of Blunt mares (the *Astraled daughters Selima and Rim). I recently read again an article about Blue Domino by Lady Anne Lytton reprinted in Arabiana, in which she says *Nureddin II stood 15.2 hands. She would have known the horse both when her grandfather had him at Newbuildings and when her mother, Lady Wentworth, had him at Crabbet. Somehow, the Internet got the idea that *Nureddin II stood a full 16 hands (see for example allbreedpedigree) but I have never found any contemporary source that says that. An article in the British Live Stock Journal for January 7, 1921 describes him as 15.2 hh. According to the Selby Stud catalog (the Selby Stud was his last owner), he was “Nearly 16 hands.” The 1924 Crabbet Stud catalog says “nearly 16 hands.” Lady Wentworth’s description of him in Crabbet herd book records however says 15.3 hands. Moira Walker has posted on here before that an advertisement for *Nureddin II standing at stud in a 1919 issue of The Live Stock Journal (Vol 89) under the ownership of S. G. Hough states he was “15h.1in.”
Awesome to watch. The Lady is so cool presenting her stallions and leading the string!
