Let me be a bit provocative and say my first thought was that my immediate thought is he has more in common conformation-wise with the QH that boards with my mare (who is close to desert lines and looks the part!) than he does with my aforementioned Arabian mare. There are some Arabians that don’t look like Arabians for various reasons, but it’s frankly obvious looking at him that he isn’t *just* Arabian.
He is extremely handsome, quite solid looking in his build, & I’m sure he is capable of great athletic feats, but I deeply wish the registries were honest with who these horses are (horses that cannot verifiably be traced to entirely be of Arabian blood). I’ve seen people who are confused why their horses of Burning Sand/Amer/French Racing bred/any mix of the three lines are said to “not look like Arabians” or “look more like an Anglo-Arabian” and it’s so frustrating to me that you can’t point out why because there will always be an inevitable chorus of “the registry says they’re pure” and other such excuses.
There is no shame in having part-breds to me, but I think it is shameful part-breds can have equal footing with the actual Arabian in the same registry & nothing will be done about it.
A good example of why you don’t write comments when it’s very late and you’re very tired: “my first thought was that my immediate thought”.
My point still stands. I don’t think he looks like an Arabian and if you didn’t tell people he was a registered “purebred” they would never guess he is supposed to be an Arabian.
So the dead give away is that his cannon bones are way to small for his body size..! Check it out dude! with his massive quarters, and too small hooves he looks like a garden variety sprinter Thoroughbred,- maybe on a really good day with a soft track he could make a mile and if the leaders got bumped around survive to make a final push for the wire. Cripes I’;m leasing a sprinter Thoroughbred mare right now that looks like only she has a prettier head. Cheesh!
The photo above is not the same horse as the photos under Sammy V in DataSource and not the same as pictured on allbreedpedigree.com. Sammy V is a registered Arabian with Arabian type. The above photo is not of Sammy V the registered Arabian.
Either somebody oopsed with the photo or someone is putting up a Quarter Horse as an Arabian. Wouldn’t be the first time a non-Arab has been presented as an Arabian or half-Arab.
Went to look for the history of this photo online; earliest source I have found for it is October 2020, on the Facebook page Tunisie Chevaux – خيول تونس, with the following caption:
⚫الفحل البطل #SAMMY_V ابن الاسطورة #BURNINIG_SAND
Google translation of the caption below:
“⚫The Champion Stallion #SAMMY_V, son of the legendary #BURNINIG_SAND
⬅️Bred by the renowned American breeder #SAM_VASQUEZ, who named this champion after himself, recognizing the quality of his bloodline and his strength. This was proven in a race where he won: ⭐The #Sheikh_Zayed_bin_Sultan_Al_Nahyan_International_G1 Award
⬅️He also recorded the fastest time in the 1200-meter dirt course ✈ with a time of 1:15, making him the fastest horse in the world ⚡. The sons of Burning Sand have achieved remarkable success, like #TM_FRED_TEXAS, who sired G1 champions around the world.”
By way of interest, the 6 furlong record on dirt in the US for Thoroughbreds is 1:06:49, set by Twin Sparks at Turf Paradise in November 2009, according to Equibase. I can’t find the Quarter Horse record for the distance.
The Arabian Jockey Club posted a video of Sammy V’s 6 furlong record on their Facebook page on 24 April 2025; the horse appears to be the same as the one in the above photo, and obliterates the field, despite having his head bent to the outside as he comes round the turn into the homestretch.

I have to admit this photo gives me a lot of hope. If that qualifies as a registered Arabian, then I can be a supermodel.
Eh oui , il y a de l’arabe dans le percheron
Et bientôt du percheron dans l’arabe ….
ca c’est plutot du PSA Burning Sand
