Jadiba pictures
Yesterday, I went up to Pennsylvania to see the mare I recently bought. This time Jadiba looked much better than the first time I saw her (thanks in part to the great care Sue Moss, the lady in the photos, is giving her), and I was pleased with her overall. I thought she had some nice features I had overlooked last time: a deep jowl, a fine muzzle, a tail set high, and well let out, a strong girth, a round croup and a well sloped shoulder. Her back is shorter — although still long in my opinion — and her ears longer than I had initially thought, too. I still think her eyes are set a little too high, and I also noticed that her forehead was narrow: her face is rectangular instead of triangular when seen from the front. Anyway, I will let you judge from these photos I took.
There is a definite Crabbet air to her (obviously, since she is about 90% Crabbet/Doyle) and the influences of Rijm (Mahruss x Rose of Sharon), who is Ribal’s maternal grandsire, and Gulastra (Astraled x Gulnare) were some of the easy ones to spot.
She also has some nice trotting action — for a 23 year old mare, that is — which is attributable to both Berk (b. 1903, I counted 20 crosses to him, some as close as the fifth generation) and Hanad (b. 1922, two crosses).
Fron her point of hip to the end of her pelvis is actually about equal to the length of the freespan of her back. So she’s really better proportioned than you might think. Her back is a tad low which tends to cause your eye to dwell on her length of back. But the lowness comes cuz shes 23. She looks like she’s got fairly good bone. Certainly a breeding quality mare. Congratulations!
Best wishes

I think she looks quite nice, Edouard, and all fingers and toes are crossed for a foal!
Edouard,
Jadiba and Levatine – Wisteria and Tantris, dream breeding’s!
Good time to meet Nancy Becker………….
Oh well, Monolog is not to shabby, for Jadiba.
Good luck with the two Mares! Wisteria is one of the very best of best!

I agree, none of us look as hot when we are in our 70’s as we did in our 20’s (and I have pictures to prove that), so it is a bit unfair to judge an older mare by a younger mare’s conformation, e.g. back. One of my beautiful young cow horses, Midbar Pavan, now at 25 or 26 has a hammock for a back, but she is still one heck of a ride and a mover.
Oh my goodness. I hadn’t thought to see Jadiba again. At twenty three she looks to be in great condition. (I think I agree with you on her high-set eyes, but I’m not one to comment on other people’s horses!)
Congratulations on your purchase!
Tell me her story, Shirin.. I know she was at Joyce’s but for how long? and where did she go for there. This mare basically went missing for 20 years.. before resurfacing a couple years ago….
