Belle in 2018
This was Belle, the Kuhaylat al-Ajuz, with my daughter Solenn in 2018. Belle was 16, Solenn 5. I am still on a quest to know who this line of horses originally belonged to, back in 1925. I have clues but no hard facts.

This was Belle, the Kuhaylat al-Ajuz, with my daughter Solenn in 2018. Belle was 16, Solenn 5. I am still on a quest to know who this line of horses originally belonged to, back in 1925. I have clues but no hard facts.
I am so glad you shared his video of Belle and Solenn. It gives me a much better sense of Belle,as a horse, than the still photos of her. I love her attentiveness to Solenn. These mares just KNOW the difference between a child and adult.
A very sweet video! Belle is so gentle with Solenn – and Solenn does a good job of leading her for one so young. The way Belle lowers her head to check in with her every time they stop – what a good mare.
Conformation wise, she is a good mare, with some defects. The back is a bit long, the girth not deep enough, and the barrel not round enough. The forehead is narrow, but it gives her some style.
Temperament wise, she is a wonderful mare, proud, lively, sensitive and intelligent. And very kind with children. Solenn was five and a half in that picture.
She does look a bit shallow through the heartgirth, yes, but I wonder how much of that is due to being presumably more of a pasture puff than a riding horse? The depth of girth and barrel, I have discovered, can be changed with the right exercise – a horse worked correctly and hard enough can actually expand through the chest and deepen through the girth as their muscles develop and grow stronger. She does have lovely long withers, though – would make saddle fitting a bit of a pain, trying not to impinge on her shoulders!
