Sheila R. Cone posted a GettyImages version of this photo on the Davenport facebook page today, and it struck my curiosity immediately. Turns out, this photo came from the Jessie Tarbox Beals photograph collection, circa 1905-1940 that is found within the New York Historical Society’s digital collections library. It is a fantastically clear and crisp photo of *Muson, and the NYHS actually allows for unrestricted use of this image for educational and scholarly purposes of this particular photo. A larger, more complete version can be seen on the NYHS website itself.
But just for ease of viewing, here’s another high quality close up of his face. You can really see the quality of horse he was in this photo.
Thanks, Moira – super find! Y’all are uncovering treasure after treasure, and it’s fascinating.
NYHS has a treasure trove of information available in regards to horse information and history that has happened within the state. Big Thanks to them for their preservation efforts!
