Through Yahya Al-Tahawi in Egypt comes this new picture of El Deree, the desert-bred race horse that became a senior stallion at the Egyptian Royal Stud in Inshass. This photo was never published in the West before.

Well conformed horse. Good neck placement,of decent length. Well laid back shoulder. Nice either. Good legs. Short back and long hip, it appears. Big eye, nice ears and nostrils.
His grandson Samehs resemblance to him is simply amazing! Wasn’t El Deree a Saklawy Sheifi(sp) Which I’m betting was the strain of Shagya.. Shagya being a teutonization(?) of Sheifi..I wonder what Teaha Iden might think about that theory.

I am sure I have seen this photo published before. Joe, am I dreaming about that?
I think it’s PMA’s 1935 book.
Is there a caption translation, Edouard?
Yes: “El Deree, a desert-bred stallion gifted by the private stud of HM the late King Fouad I to the RAS”
