Obeyran II as a young horse
Extracted from ‘The Rasp – 1914’ — a picture of a younger Obeyran II (*Obeyran x Zitra) from Califnornian El Rancho de las Rosas, owned and bred (edit: well, maybe not) by the Tullys. I’d never seen a photo of Obeyran II before, and wanted to share this. This photo is also uploaded in the flickr I have set up, as well as photos that I find as I search (or as Google finally finishes reviewing books for me), and is updated as I go.
I had never seen this photo of Obeyran II before, but there is a different photo of him in the new edition of Homer Davenport’s Quest of the Arabian Horse on p. 296. Also Obeyran II was not bred by the Tullys. His dam Zitra remained on the east coast and produced for Hingham Stock Farm. Obeyran II was part of the group of horses Davenport sold to the Tullys in 1908 (stallions *Obeyran, *Nejdran, *Ibn Mahruss, and Obeyran II; mares and fillies Sheba (with Yusanet), *Markisa, Galfia II, Yimeta, and Nejdme III.
Oh, good catch.
I think I need someone (or multiple someones) to tell me if some of these photos are new. I have no idea which ones are or aren’t, and I’m a little hesitant to come out, guns blazing with a proclamation of “Brand New Photo of X,Y,Z!” For example, I have another photo from the Tullys of a mare that I believe is Yimeta with a foal that I suspect is Ghanim, but she isn’t identified in-text, and would love some confirmation on that.
I think Yimeta was the only grey mare the Tullys had.
Then it surely must be her! 🙂
