Photo of the Day: Aziz, 1888, Algeria
The series on desert-bred Arabian imports to North Africa continues thanks to breeder and blog reader A. Deblaise. This is Aziz, one of the earliest desert-breds imported to Algeria by the French. I know nothing about his strain or his original breeder.
All I know is that he is present in the back of the pedigrees of some really good Tunisian and Algerian horses, like the pretty Kuhaylat al-‘Ajuz mare Hadia (Kefil x Rafiaa by Bango) from Tunisia, pictured below. Hadia has three lines to Aziz, though his three daughters El Keira, Fakhera, and Gueddima.
Edouard,
I’ve heard about a german lady who lives in the North
of Tunisia ,near the Algerian border. Her name is Gisela Bergmann. She breeds asil arabians (old tunisian bloodlines ) and salukis.
László
I have heard of her too. I found her contacts if any one wants to get in touch with her:
GISELA BERGMANN HAR. BARAKET – 8160 GHARDIMAOU – +216.98.304574 – Fax: +216.78.660099
Actually, her main stallion TCHAD (out of Binsar out of Hadia) is a grandson of the mare Hadia pictured above.
These horses -if they are really asils – in France, Tunisia,Algerie,Morocco are very precious for our breed.
If anyone on the this blog ever sees a mare like Hadia, or even hears of a mare who might look like her, please let me know. She is the mare I will spend the rest of my life looking for.
Elena oh yes , it gives some more beautiful mares.
Aisha from Ansata Halim Shah, or Noha from Hadban Enzahi, the fullsistern Moheba II and Malikah from Ghazal.
About Aziz………he is very Typey.Long nek,wow…..
Yes, looks like Aziz must have been quite a broodmare sire. I like him a lot in the photo, and Hadia, well, agree with Elena completely.
Eduard, her faxnumber is busy
There is a group on Facebook organising aid for Gisela Bergmann, the woman who is keeping a herd of some 30 Arabian horses of old Tiaret & Sidi Thabet bloodlines.
A quick search on google learns that she is unable to decently feed her animals anymore for quite some time.
The pictures show horses in rather bad condition http://www.facebook.com/group.php?v=photos&gid=32288989030#/group.php?gid=32288989030
If there is an opportunity to take-over a large breeding program with Maghrebian bloodlines prior to the french partbred racing stock, it is perhaps this program.
Oh God, I knew I shouldn’t have clicked on that link. Am praying someone with very deep pockets comes to this site…
