Reconstructing Domow
A great article by Rick Synowski by Michael Bowling and RJ Cadranell — of course, sorry — on “Reconstructing Domow”, that matriach of old American breeding. I never tire of re-re-reading it. I leased two Krush mares with Domow in the pedigree. The usual instruction with this photo: flip your head 30 degrees to the right when looking at it.
Actually, that is by Michael Bowling and RJ Cadranell, who did a wonderful job of historical detective work.
Interesting and I am sorry if this is a stupid question but obviously Domow is not accepted as Asil?
Yes she is accepted by Al Khamsa. 1) MtDNA has confirmed that she traces to the same dam line as her dam, and 2) there were only asil stallions at the Davenport farm at the time her dam was covered. The sire is not Abu Zeyd, but it might well have been Astraled.
She is accepted in the same way that Nefisa (by Hadban or Proximo) or Rosemary (by Jeroboam or Proximo) are accepted.
