Superb Bashir

This son of the Doyle stallion Tamaam DE and the rare Sarita Bint Raj does not cease to amaze me. Look at the withers-shoulder-neck complex! Photos by Lyman Doyle. Pippa is the mare in the bottom.

  1. He has the same classy look as a really good Thoroughbred, athletic and balanced. I would bet that he is a real pleasure to ride, and that he has a ground-covering canter and a nice jump.

  2. Thanks, Kate!
He’s not yet under saddle, but is a favorite of the trainer’s.

He’s code red Al Khamsa, since he & his dam are the last links to foundation horses *Al-Mashoor and *Euphrates. They also have a cross to *Mirage.

  3. Wasn’t Euphrates a brother of Hamras? Also its probably to soon to ask if he freezes. Mirage too eh? Didn’t Mirage have an incredibly well set on neck as well. You are right about his forehand Edouard He reminds me of the line drawing Colonel Chamberlin has on page 53 of hunters jumpers and hacks- of the ideal galloper. A sloping shoulder but not too much so- not standing out behind with his back legs so that he can still stand over a lot of ground. Also a nearly three circle body build( can’t tell for sure without all four legs vertical..

  4. Yes, Bruce, *Hamrah and *Euphrates were full brothers, foaled in 1904 and 1905 respectively. Both out of *Urfah by The Great Hamdani, a Hamdani stallion owned collectively by tribes, and there was another full brother that was sold to Europe. The Great Hamdani was also sire of *Haffia (out of *Abeyah), granddam of Antez.

  5. That first photo is a fantastic photo. But he has an even better pelvis than it seems to show, as evident in the second photo.
