As Carol Lyons said to me once, “Charles is riding Tybalt without any caveson or noseband and that horse’s mouth is closed.
This makes an instructive contrast with the Aramis photo because we see extreme collection in one and extreme extension in the other.
When I was 13 I drew a picture of a Greek war horse pulling a soldier in a chariot. I can’t recall now whether my horse was white or black, but there’s no doubt in my mind at all that it was Tybalt. And I guess that’s why I loved Davenports from the first moment I read a description of one.

Yes, she did. She also owned Chatauqua. Both of those stallions are gone now, but she owns Sabrina CF, a Davenport mare that she uses riding in southwest Colorado.
