“Migrate to Survive” documentary about Iranian asil horses
Thanks to Kina Murray for reminding me of this wonderful documentary, “Migrate to Survive”, about the Iranian asil horses of Mary Gharagozlou. Some really nice mares and stallions are featured, including the black one Mary is seen riding into the mountains in the screenshot below, and a couple of noticeable grey and chestnut mares.

I am guessing, but the black stallion Mary is riding in the film may well be Effrit, (born 1967) a son of Arras out of her precious mare, Khanum – see the article on Edouard’s other post for Mary’s references to that mare.
Indeed that makes sense, because it’s not Arras’ blaze, and not Samarquand’s either. Arras would also have been too old.
And Samarquand would have been too young (born 1975)
Thank you both for sharing this wonderful documentary. Brings back a lot of memories being in the Middle East desert. And what a proud lady leading the group with her black stallion to gentler environment. She even brought her German Shepherd :). These horses were trained from birth to all kind of circumstances and life events. Endurance training from the start.
