Kuhaylat al-Mimra isn’t bad for your first time

Kate and I started talking about the mare Sidi Bint Maistro a while ago. I finally summoned up the nerve to get my 2 cents together and make an offer for her.

Who was the first horse you bought?

  1. This is very exciting, Wilton!! That mare is such a treasure!

The first horses I ever bought-bought were Tara (DV Precious Gem) and her yearling daughter Qisma (DV Precious Gal) in a 2-for-1 (well, techncially 3-for-1) package deal from the breeder’s sister-in-law as she was trying to disperse his estate.

    1. The first horse horse that was (sort of) mine was a rescue that was given to me because I was a greenhorn and he was the least likely to cause trouble. He was gelded too early, so thin as a rake. Like yours truly. Head like a hinny.

      We got along like smashingly.

  2. Mr. Wilton Burger :

I just studied the pedigree combination of what you stated you had aquired. You`d better hurry up and start breeding with this mare. But be careful which sire you would choose for the next and last few years of the mare you just have gotten there.
What gem that one is. Get busy, man . Of one of the choices is that of Non Nazeer`s. And you know what I mean by this. And whom whom does have Non Nazeer`s in their repertoire….
Too bad the only male descendant of Set Husen has been wasted and lost in the folds of time.
Good luck. And be smart. One of those you just have gotten, is hard to come by.

  3. Fantastic! Congratulations on getting your special mare! We’ll be waiting for photos when you have them.

  4. And if you are entertaining suggestions for stallions to breed her to, I hope you will take a look at Mlolshaan Mutab.

    Best wishes!

Oh! The first horse I actually bought myself was the Davenport/Egyptian stallion Rafik El Bedu (Florentine x Bint Bint Fadba). I fell in love with him as a tiny foal, just a few days old. He matured into a fantastic riding horse and sired a couple of equally nice offspring. If I knew then what I know now, I wouldn’t have taken his outstanding character for granted.

  5. Congrats, Wilton. That’s a great start. I had bought her older sister, and kept her at Pienaar Du Plessis, but it was too late to get her to produce a foal. She never had one.

The first mare I had bought was Wisteria CF, from Craver Farms in 2006. She was a wonderful Davenport mare, which looked like an ivory sculpture. But I was born around horses.

  6. Mr. Wilton Burger:

on second thought when I read the responses. You do not have to do anything. Just enjoy what you have gotten. If you will. I took a look at the suggestion towards Mlolshaan Mutab. He is getting older. The few pictures of the few ancestors on display … His cannon bones. On the thin side.
It is very nice to see a fine stallion like this. But: there is Treff -Haven Sabeel. Or one on Rancho Bulakenyo. If I did spell this right ? Then there is a hidden breeding program I will not tell about… Found it years ago. They do have great stallions . And offspring, too.

Whatever…. . A new family horse. To be privately enjoyed by you.
Whatever you like to do. Just saying. Your choice. You either go with what people are trying to make people like us do ? Or you do things your own way. The choice is yours.
Have a good time. The future and present is yours. Not theirs. Influencers !?
We can not go backwards with what we got. But only forwards. Trying to breed is thinking in forward generations. Modern style. Into the future. For the future. And not Retro style.
But if you want Retro . Go ahead. Or not. To each its own. And march to your own drum.
You have gotten a pedigree combination which is unusual indeed. One to be careful with. If ever. At the age your new mare is you have got but a few precious years left. IF you would decide to breed with this little gem. Suit yourself. Again: your choice. Not theirs. Or mine.

  7. Our effort to help breed from that dam line has hit a literal bump. The owner is very keen on selling and very aware how scarce this mare’s blood is…. but the mare is pregnant again.

I’m at the point of walking into the dunes and screaming.

  8. Dear Mr. Burger :

I do not know you. It was hard to read your latest comment as this experience does hit home. I did take a closer look at the pedigree combination of that mare. More, than before.
Go ahead and scream. And if you go into your closet and use a pillow to yell into. Just make sure your neighbors do not hear this. Hence: the pillow. When the going gets tough , the tough get going. Right ?
Oh. This is just terrible. This darn ornery owner, seller. It seems to be sport of some people. To tease prospective buyers galore. You might not be the only one he, or she, is doing this, to.
Just go ahead and scream. Or take a walk though nature. This is the type of pedigree such owner will not release until he or she is actually done with. Such supposed sellers just pretend to do so. because such kind does get a literal kick out of the reactions of potential buyers. It feed their egos. While they wait for big money pockets to arrive. Which usually do not do so…
Go look for something else. You will find something much better. And let that fool just sit there.
You might be spared a sales contract so crafty , it would have nailed you down to have to breed such mare until the seller gets satisfied with yet another filly foal for him. Or her. At your expense.
I once answered to an old re known breeder of certain Egyptian lines. Let me tell you. I backed off really fast . The mare`s name had been Naqwa Banat…. . Just as a little clue here… .
Most owners and seller nowadays employ agents as middle persons, too. And such agents are ornery , too.
Most of us mere mortals do not ever get what is being offered. They`d rather sit on their “materials “, than to relinquish what they are offering. In the hundreds.

You can find something better you would like the same way. The pedigree of the mare you did make an offer on suggests a certain directive. Certain people whom are greedy and ornery at best. So. You are lucky. You are one of those which did get away. Count your blessings. If you will. This seller is also playing around too much…. . Such person always seems to think they are so special. And do anything to be the center of attraction. The life of the party. So to speak.
A narcissist ? Who knows ? Greedy for power and more money ? Yes. Using such mare and pedigree for this purpose ? Yes. To keep securing their demand of a position in their life ? Yes.

In this denial: Count your blessings, man. This seller is ornery.

    MD.
