Mare looking out the window

Just looking again at this nice 2016 photo of my Kuhaylat al-Ajuz mare “Belle”. It’s the Arabian horse equivalent of that 1950 Edward Hopper painting “Cape Cod Morning” with the woman looking out the window at the National Portrait Gallery in Washington, DC.

Eerie echoes … Edward Hopper’s Cape Cod Morning, 1950.

  1. The photo of Belle reminds me of old paintings of famous mares in stables, like the Glencoe daughter Reel. The composition, the lighting, the grey mare and the foal curled up on the straw.

  2. What a lovely, strong, substantial horse, and a nice story that this photo tells! I can almost hear the katydids and the barn swallows outside, and the gentle rustle of the foal stirring in the hay.
