New-to-me photo of stallion Basil, Kuhaylan al-Mimrah from Syria

This new-to-me photo of the Syrian Kuhaylan Mimrah stallion Basil (Mahrous x Halah), of the breeding of the late Mustapha al-Jabri was taken at the Damascus Government Stud . It recently appeared on one of the many Facebook pages now focusing on Syrian Arabians, one hosted by “Alhorane”. I remember being struck by this horse the first time I saw him in 1990. He oozed Arabness.

  1. Oh, how neat to a see a new photo! He looks well-balanced overall, nothing extreme, and very much like the sort of horse you want to saddle up and take out for a ride.

  2. I took a photo of Basil at the Al-Basil Center for Arabians in Syria on my 1996 trip through that region. The photo is not great but at least somewhat descriptive. It was published in Khamsat Volume 14 Number 1, page 34. Basil was an exceptionally handsome and high quality stallion, admired at the center for his siring ability at that time. In the Khamsat article I had commented that Basil reminded me of the Al Khamsa stallion Muhairon (Sirecho x *Muhaira), and this new picture above that you have posted Edouard, confirms that even more to me.
