Photo of the Day: Iliad, Kuhaylan Haifi stallion, USA

Finally, I was able to see a photo of the 1975 asil Kuhaylan Hayfi stallion Iliad (Ibn Alamein x Oriole by Sir), bred by Charles Craver of “Davenport” bloodlines. Iliad is the sire of two stallions I really like, Audobon (out of Audacity), and Salil Ibn Iliad (out of LD Rubic. His extremely correct conformation reminds me of some of the asil stallions of Tunisian and Algerian bloodlines that stood at the government studs of France in the 1960s, Iricho in particular. Photo from the Davenport Arabian Horse Conservancy website.

  1. Edouard,

Glad you posted this photo! I have crossed this line back to Pulcher. Perhaps one of the most beautiful of
The Davenports. The name Pulcher, means beautiful. The stud colt of this cross is extremely beautiful.

Iliad via photo is astonding! To bad all the horses are not represented with such photo’s! I sat staring at the photo for many minutes, now have gone back over and over.

    Thanks as usual, Jackson

  2. ARABIAN SEAHORSES

Hey guys its http://www.peterbainbridge.com of Superfoto magazine Sydney. Guys Im writing a fictional account on fourteen of the most highly prized Arabian stallions and seven mares stolen from the finest Sheiks stables across Yemen during the 1970’s. (this could be revised.?)

These imaginary horses were smuggled onto the Island of Socotra and held for ransom, but the thieves who stole the horses died on the island unexpectedly and so the horses escaped, roamed free, forgotten and became legend.

the story is titled ARABIAN SEAHORSE…is there anyone that could give me some background on the Sheiks names who were in fierce competition with each other, (rival clans ect) stable names, progeny like Al-Manaki.? i need more information so i can have some vague sense of authenticity.

The idea here is, these horse’s where stolen just before ”the big race” is there a big race they have.? we have our Melbourne Cup, i imagine their version is somewhat different, their’s might be a race that goes on for days not minutes like ours.? and the losers might forfeit ownership as in Coppola’s the black Stallion.? these horse became worth more than the light in the sky their strains pure, there’s a film here chaps.?……Thanks…..Peter bainbridge

  3. I am behind on the blog, Edouard, but i have a granddaughter of this regal stallion. I have not seen this photo before and am so happy to have seen it. it truly shows his correct conformation and am happy to see remnants in my JDA Husaana (Salil Ibn Iliad X Saafadda CHF) 1999 flaxen chestnut mare, and the jewel of my life. thankyou!
